From 2024 to 2026, Wildlife Trusts Wales is delighted to be receiving support from the Welsh Government through The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
This vital support is enabling Wildlife Trusts Wales to work across the five amazing Welsh Trusts to scale their work collectively, build new partnerships and unlock new resourcing potential. This work will make an important contribution to a more sustainable future for nature recovery and ecosystem resilience in Wales, benefitting biodiversity, climate, people, and prosperity.

Private finance for nature – also known as green finance – has huge potential for nature recovery at scale and safeguarding ecosystem services that we all rely on such as clean rivers, flood mitigation and soil quality. Green finance can work in conjunction with government and philanthropic support to reach scales of delivery and impact that may not be reached through grant and subsidy alone. It is a complex and rapidly evolving field. This critical funding from the Welsh Government is supporting the upskilling of the Trusts in Wales on green finance, sharing learning from existing initiatives and scoping the market opportunities. We are looking at regional or landscape scale, building out programmes of work that will encompass Trust reserves, protected areas and beyond, working with farmers, landowners, communities, business, and many other actors.
