Join Gwent Wildlife Trust and Liam Olds from the Colliery Spoil Biodiversity Initiative for a fascinating day, walking and discovering the wildlife of the beautiful and incredibly biodiverse Silent Valley Nature Reserve near Ebbw Vale.
Whilst nearly all the signs of the once thriving coal industry have been lost from the South Wales valleys, the numerous colliery spoil tips littering the landscape have remained. Spoil tips have become an iconic feature in the landscape of the South Wales valleys, and there are several key features of colliery spoil tips that make them fantastic habitats for invertebrates and other wildlife.
A free event as part of our Where’s Your Wildlife project.
